Tracking Natural Disasters: Current Events Presentation

Mar 20, 2015

The Department of Geological Sciences offers students a course titled: Natural Disasters: Hollywood vs. RealityGSC 107R

The course explores the causes, effects, and societal response to disasters. Students look at a variety of natural hazards and disasters including impacts, earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanoes, storms, and climate change.

Full time lecturer Ta-Shana Taylor had students informally present on a current natural disaster event which relates to scientific principles covered throughout the course.

To track each of the students presentations, Ta-Shana used a third party web tool called Maptive, a custom map creator to track location and type of disaster.
